| Description: | Job bulletins that only state what is on the job description may not be the best tool to use when trying to attract applicants who are not only technically qualified, but who will also "fit" into your organization. Many applicants will not read the "small print" or understand agency-specific jargon. It is more important during the recruiting process to focus on the job information that will help them determine if they are the "ideal" candidate.
Ideal candidate statements provide a realistic job preview by describing the type of employee who will be successful in the position. This information helps applicants determine if the job is right for them. Applicants who have complete and realistic job information, can choose to either continue in the process or self-select out. This benefits the agency because employees who have high "job fit" are more fully engaged and thus more productive.
